Thanks for blogging about this. I decided t...Greg,

Thanks for blogging about this. I decided that it was time for me to move on from my job about a month ago. I had to make the move, I am trying not to look back. Ive been there for 4 years so its tough. I let my supers know and they were not too happy about it.
That imaginary fear of letting someone down has kept me there for a while.
I learned so much there and made great friends and connections, including you, so I will take with me lessons and friendships that I will never forget but I cannot grow there anymore.
I am 'chasing after my dream', step by step, And Im excited but confident and unsure lol.
I appreciate the poem that Joe wrote. Inspirational things are great and I would remember that poem while moving forward with my decisions, but not in regards to staying at my previous job.

ShannonShannonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08371532779203591332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1665619563748706349.post-37616589141110564482009-11-12T09:56:52.073-08:002009-11-12T09:56:52.073-08:00Interesting turn of events with the Ph.D. candidat...Interesting turn of events with the Ph.D. candidate. Maybe it was that once the feeling of *pressure* had been removed, the candidate felt some type of burden lifted and then just wanted to charge forth..Joe, thanks for sending the poem, though I wonder if that poem's author would agree with my general premise..The New Englanderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06201310505648616855noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1665619563748706349.post-3564902506293530252009-11-09T15:55:38.444-08:002009-11-09T15:55:38.444-08:00A poem that I posted at my desk for so many years,...A poem that I posted at my desk for so many years, until it was time to "move on":

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

- Author unknownJoeShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12398638395224775006noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1665619563748706349.post-60539405810758786232009-11-09T10:39:38.033-08:002009-11-09T10:39:38.033-08:00Yeah. "Loves" that expression.
Is this...Yeah. "Loves" that expression.

Is this a prelim to saying Gov Palin was right to bow out as Gov of Alaska, which up until she did it was a job of no consequence?

Basically I agree with this. I had to make a personal decision recently about supporting a relative who is in pursuit of a PhD. I figured I was at the point where it might have become more important for me than the candidate and said that it was OK not to go all the way. As it turned out, the candidate is all about charging on, which is a good thing.

Regards — CliffC R Kriegerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10563658418464959198noreply@blogger.com
